Cura Italia decree, all support measures for agriculture

The “Cura Italia“ decree was launched last night, which contains a series of extraordinary economic measures to compensate for the economic damage caused by the health emergency of the coronavirus. Among the sectors covered by the decree there is also the agri-food sector, protagonist of the following measures:
€ 100 million fund to support agricultural businesses; appropriation of € 100 million to facilitate access to credit;
increase from 50% to 70% of the advance payments of the Pac contributions for a total value of over one billion euro; redundancy fund notwithstanding for all agricultural workers and protection for seasonal workers without continuity of employment; allowance for fixed-term agricultural workers; increase of the indigent fund of 50 million euro to ensure the distribution of foodstuffs, in addition to the 6 million already destined in the past few days for the purchase of raw milk, in accordance with the food waste table;
suspension of instalments until 30 September for mortgages and other repayment loans, also completed through the issue of agricultural bills.

Eni-Coldiretti agreement for energy in agriculture

Strengthening the role of energy in the service of agriculture: this is the objective of a collaboration agreement signed by Eni and Coldiretti, which provides for joint initiatives in the circular economy and sustainable development. Eni will be able to supply its range of fuels and lubricants for agricultural machinery to associates, consortia and subsidiaries and associates associated with Coldiretti, alongside those with a low environmental impact, crops that are biodegradable and formulated with raw materials from renewable sources.

The recognition of food as a value.

This is the spirit behind the bill to combat agri-food offenses. The reform, proposed by the Minister of Agricultural Policies Teresa Bellanova and the Minister of Justice Alfonso Bonafede, had the go-ahead from the Council of Ministers. The measure aims at a greater protection of the products made in Italy, of the geographical indications, and of the citizens, placing at the centre "the recognition of the priority value of the identity of the foods, one of the founding elements at the base of the Mediterranean diet, a world heritage". It increases the regulatory instruments against agri-food crimes, fraud, counterfeiting and so-called agropireria. It also intends to bring about a modernisation of the repressive system in the food production and distribution sector.
