The cultivation of plants, flowers and vegetables has always been a highly appreciated activity by people when they have the opportunity to practice it: managing a small vegetable garden can give enormous satisfaction as well as lighten the expenses in fruit and vegetables. In recent years, people's interest in the use of organic and mineral fertilizers has also increased: two natural products with no contraindications that, when dosed correctly, can ensure the health and luxuriant growth of plants. Especially in the field of mineral fertilizers, the importance of replenishing the soil with certain substances and the signs to recognize what plants need are increasingly known.

The microelements, especially minerals, are essential substances for the life of plants and, as every good grower knows, they can run out over time and make crops less flourishing. In addition to the fact that the presence of substances cannot be taken for granted, it is important to remember that the soil is not the simple sum of the elements present, but hosts transformations and microorganisms that make life possible thanks to their activities and, above all, must respond also the consequences of a specific pH. For this reason, the composition of the soil itself must be kept under control and, depending on the cultivation, fertilizers specially prepared by professionals must be added.

In the recent years there has been an increase in the use of resistance inducers and biostimulants, thanks to the discovery of significant benefits. These are solutions that are given to plants, respecting the typical needs of each type of cultivation and that are able to help them protect themselves from threats, stress and facilitate the activation of immune and defensive responses against parasites. Furthermore, these are treatments that have no contraindications on crops, on the contrary, they ensure strong and healthy plants capable of giving healthy, genuine fruits and beautiful flowers. Furthermore, the use of biostimulants has proven to be so effective in helping plants activate their natural defenses that it significantly reduces the use of drugs and other chemicals that could have other unwanted effects.

Years of studies and research have shown that plants are anything but helpless in the face of threats from the environment and, over centuries of evolution, they have developed optimal strategies to defend themselves. The discovery of these innate defenses has led to a consequent innovation in crops at all levels: instead of administering drugs and chemicals, treatments have begun to fortify and optimize existing immune responses. The main defense strategies discovered are 3: - passive resistance; - localized induced resistance; - acquired systemic resistance.

Biostimulating substances are natural products used for centuries in crops with the aim of nourishing and fortifying plants in a safe and natural way. In recent decades, the revival of interest in these substances has given way to studies and research that today allow us to understand more precisely what happens to plants and what they need to stay healthy. Biostimulants act exactly like our food and vitamin supplements, providing a greater supply of useful elements to grow vigorously, cope with stress and disease. A correct use of these substances and compliance with the dosage indicated by the experts is a simple and effective solution to protect crops and gardens of all sizes.

Apparently there should be no difference between a fertilizer and a biostimulant, however although both are important for plant health and life, they have substantial differences. The first, obvious difference is the quantity that is used: a dozen kilograms of biostimulants can be enough to nourish and protect an entire hectare of land, while in the case of fertilizers, much higher quantities might be required. The second, more substantial, difference is their action on plants which is qualitatively more complex than that of traditional fertilizers and deserves greater attention.

Very often these are algae extracts specially grown and dried to obtain a specific effect and, unlike traditional fertilizers, large quantities are not needed to ensure their beneficial effect. Let's find out in detail what are the main positive effects that are decreeing the success of biostimulants.
